The cosmetic product Łopian is based on an extract from the root of the biennial burdock plant ( Arctium lappa ), which is widespread in the temperate climate zones of Europe and Asia. The abundance of beneficial substances for health makes the herb one of the frequently used in traditional medical practices of many countries as a means of maintaining health and treating various diseases.

Scientific studies have shown that topical application of burdock root extract stimulates collagen synthesis, thereby helping to maintain the youthful appearance of the skin. Collagen is not only a major structural protein in connective tissue, but also a key component in the production of keratin. Both substances provide elasticity and strength to the skin, and the decline in their levels with age is the main cause of wrinkles and sagging.

Burdock root is a very good natural source of vitamin E. This phytochemical, along with the antioxidant compounds in the plant, including quercetin, luteolin, and various phenolic acids, have a positive effect on dry skin. Applied externally, the extract soothes irritated areas from sunburn or rashes, increases their hydration, and accelerates their recovery.
